Custom System Engineering
Engineered RF solutions designed for first-pass compliance with Houston Fire Department and HPD radio coverage requirements. From site survey to permit-ready documentation.
Every building presents a unique RF environment. Construction materials, floor count, interior layout, and proximity to donor signal sources all affect how first responder radio signals behave inside a structure. A BDA system that works in one building will not work in another without proper engineering. That is why every project starts with a site-specific design.
Our design process begins with an initial RF survey to measure existing signal levels at critical test points throughout the building. We map coverage gaps and identify the frequencies that fall below HFD and HPD minimum thresholds. This data drives every decision that follows.
From there, our engineers develop a complete system architecture: amplifier selection based on building size and signal loss, donor antenna placement for optimal signal capture, distributed antenna layout to deliver coverage to every floor and zone, and cable routing that accounts for existing infrastructure and building pathways.
We design specifically for HFD and HPD frequencies, ensuring that every required public safety band meets or exceeds the signal strength thresholds mandated by the Authority Having Jurisdiction. Our systems are also engineered for integration with fire alarm and building management systems, including monitoring connections and annunciator panel tie-ins required by code.
Every design package includes as-built documentation formatted for permit submission: system schematics, equipment schedules, coverage maps, battery backup calculations, and cable routing diagrams. When the AHJ reviews the package, everything they need is already there. That is how we deliver first-pass compliance.
Our Process
Four phases from initial assessment to installation-ready deliverables.
On-site signal measurement at grid test points across every floor. We document existing coverage levels on all required HFD and HPD frequencies and identify dead zones.
Amplifier selection, donor antenna siting, distributed antenna layout, and cable pathway routing. Every component is sized and placed based on survey data and building conditions.
Complete permit-ready package including system schematics, equipment schedules, coverage maps, battery backup calculations, and cable routing diagrams for AHJ review.
We work directly with the installation team to ensure the system is built to spec. On-site coordination and post-install verification confirm the design performs as engineered.
A complete BDA system design includes the following components, each selected and specified based on the building's unique RF environment and code requirements:
Common Questions
Most BDA system designs are completed within 2 to 3 weeks after the initial site survey. Complex buildings with multiple floors, unusual construction materials, or split structures may require additional time for RF modeling and engineering review. We provide a timeline estimate after the site survey is complete.
Yes. Our design package includes all documentation required for permit submission to the Houston Fire Department and the Authority Having Jurisdiction. This includes system schematics, equipment specifications, coverage maps, battery backup calculations, and as-built drawings formatted for HFD review.
Absolutely. We design BDA systems for both new construction and existing buildings. For existing structures, we conduct an on-site RF survey to map current signal conditions, identify dead zones, and engineer a system that works within the building's existing infrastructure, including available riser pathways and ceiling space.
We design for all frequencies required by the local Authority Having Jurisdiction. In Houston, this includes Houston Fire Department (HFD) and Houston Police Department (HPD) radio bands. Our systems are engineered to meet signal strength thresholds on every required frequency at all test points throughout the building.
